Melb PC Wins Best User Group Web Site Award
We now have the best User Group Web site in the known world. This was announced at the User Group summit
of the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG).
The award is the culmination of the work of many members over a period of time but I thank Steven Goldate
particularly, for his design work in creating the new look of our pages and Stan Johnstone for his work
in updating the pages.
Although much of this work was automated, Stan had to manually modify
almost 2,000 pages in the short time before the judging deadline.

Even More Bonus Time
We have decided to further extend the time available online for members. Even after you have used your
daily allowance, including the "time-of-day bonus time" as shown in the chart below, more bonus time is
available if unused modems in a modem bank remain available for other users. The less popular the modem
bank, the higher the probability of getting this "unused modems bonus time".
The least popular modem bank is on the telephone number 9934 9400, followed by 8626 5000; the modem bank
on 9697 4000 being the most popular. Modems on 9934 9400 are less popular as some users find that
due to modem incompatibility, it is more difficult to connect and remain connected (just like people).
"Unused modems bonus time" is available on all Melb PC Internet modem banks, but if your modem is compatible
with the modems on 9934 9400, it is available most of the 24 hours.
Time-of-Day Bonus Internet Time
|
To allow the maximum amount of quality Internet time for full Internet members with good modem access,
the bonus time periods below within a minimum daily time limit of 200 minutes will be trialed on a day-to-day
basis. The earlier in the day for your connection to Melb PC Internet, the more bonus time per day you may
obtain. Commencing at the civilized hour of 8.00 am, 8 hours per day is allowed. Commencing at 4.00 pm,
4 hours per day is allowed, while commencing at 8.00 pm allows 200 minutes for the day.

Co-location Update
We have ordered 30 lines from Comindico as the first step in our move to co-locating most of our Internet
hardware in the new premises.
These lines are now available and enable a local call from all of Mornington Peninsula as well as other
outlying parts of Melbourne. Testing is currently being undertaken by the Internet admin and the iHelp
teams and the new phone number will be posted on the MOTD when this is completed.
During the testing period the probability of receiving a busy line will be reduced as some of the normal
calls will be on this new number.
