George Skarbek updates the situation with Michael
Isaachsen’s Museum and calls for more volunteers to get out there and
become interested in a valuable piece of Melbourne’s history |
One of our long-time members, Michael Isaachsen of Footscray, is the Curator of
the Melbourne Museum of Printing. The Museum has had a difficult few years,
having been forced to shut down in 1998 and has only recently found a new home.
The new Museum in central Footscray will soon be opening, with the hours
depending on available volunteer effort. There will be a public program and a
range of classes on the history and practices of typography.
We all use typography. Every time we select a typeface and point size on our
computer we are following the footsteps of early printers. The Museum offers
interested persons the chance to become familiar with what came before, through
volunteering.
I urge those members who have an interest in typography or old machinery, or
like explaining things, to contact Michael Isaachsen and find out about the
Museum's volunteer program.
