Viruses Revealed -
for the bookshelf

A companion title to the Hacking Exposed series, Viruses Revealed is an
essential resource for anyone with an interest in understanding and countering
malicious code, also known as malware. It is not necessary to have a technical
background in order to follow much of the text, but at the same time Viruses
Revealed is a valuable resource for professionals who have a need to appreciate
virus mechanisms in order to manage viruses. There is no reliance on code
examples that require a knowledge of programming; executives who are not
programmers, but who have a responsibility for system security, should find it
an informative background to malware, its various forms, infection mechanisms,
and solutions.
An important aspect of virus management is the evaluation and testing of anti-malware
products. Testing skills are not something that can be acquired from reading a
single book; it is a complex field and requires specialist experience. However,
a chapter discusses the topic in detail and suggests some testing procedures
that can be applied; its real value is in arming the reader with sufficient
information to evaluate products being pushed by vendors.
