We have a large cross section of material in this month's PC Update -
everything from software reviews, part two of building your own computer,
recovering data from a dying hard drive, a look at Google's new Chrome web
browser and a whole bunch of hardware with a bent towards wireless.
Of course, we like to diversify even more, and the key to this is finding
people who have a passion about their subject and can scribble a few hundred
words that our
expert sub-editor Paul can knock into shape as necessary. Subjects that come to
mind include anything different that you may be using your PC for - astronomy,
creating t-shirts, mouse mats etc, genealogy, scrapbooking, converting vinyl
record music to CD, video editing - there will always be people who like to read
about what YOU
do, which means that THEY might like to do it too!
Or perhaps you have a technique you have found useful; a macro in Word or Excel
for example, or the pros and cons of flipping from Windows to Linux or even
Mac.
Maybe you are an electronics whizz and design circuit boards to build your own
home automation? There are literally hundreds of things that can be written
about, and as this is your magazine, I'd like to see your material and ideas in
it!
As mentioned, don't be too concerned about your spelling, grammar or
punctuation - or lack of it - we can fix that. But do be aware that we like
pictures and lots of them. We need them at 300 dpi JPG (text should be from
Word or in TXT format and NO formatting) and to get this ability, you can use
the trial version of SNAGIT available from
www.tucows.com.
Have you noticed that PC Update is now printed on better quality paper
and now looks and feels better overall? We have had a change of printer to
eliminate a few other errors that were becoming annoying to say the least and
the results have been fantastic. So apart from a faster turnaround, we are
getting a better quality product as well!
As always, if you want to make any comment, have some ideas or want to send me
some material, please send to
editor@melbpc.org.au.
Happy computing!
