We've Moved!

Well, the big news for this issue is our move - we are safely in our new home and, no longer subject to the vagaries of sub-tenancy, should be there for many years. There is still a lot of work to be done and furniture and equipment to be acquired, but at last the effort and expense will be of enduring benefit to the group. Your committee is minimising the cost of outfitting the office by purchasing second-hand equipment and seeking donations. Several members have donated items ranging from coffee cups, through furniture to a fridge and computers. Many thanks to all of you - if anyone has some unwanted item that could be of use, please contact the committee or the office. If transport of goods is a problem - let us solve that! One thing we are in particular need of is storage or shelving space. We have the nucleus of a good library, but no way to display it. We are going to set up a reading or socialising area, but need easy chairs and tables. I'm sure you get the ideal

Welcome Aboard!

If you visit the office (and more on that later) you will be able to meet our new Operations Manager, Janet Henstock. Many of you will have met Janet at ITeC, in St. Kilda Road, where she was before joining us. Janet is well qualified and experienced to take over the ever-growing task of administering the operation of our expanding group. Please try to make her life (and that of the other staff' and volunteers) less onerous, by directing all technical or dial-help-type queries to Dial Help volunteers. The office is not set up to handle these sorts of problems - if it was to be, we would need to double or treble the annual subscription!

Monthly Meetings

You will find the program for the next four months elsewhere in this issue. Hayden May has organised an impressive array of speakers, and has only a few vacancies for later in the year. If you know of a worthy speaker, please contact Hayden or Janet. Those of you fortunate enough to attend recent meetings will have noticed the dramatic improvement in quality of the overhead screen projection. For this we thank Eleetroboard Pty Ltd, who are providing, free of charge, the equipment and one of their representatives to all our main monthly meetings. This is a very generous arrangement and our sincere thanks go to Electroboard and John Facey from their sales and marketing division.

1993

1993 promises to be a busy year for Melb PC. Plans are well underway to increase advertising in, and reduce the cost of, PC Update, while improving the quality and range of articles. The hardware and software problems that have limited the expansion of the BBS are close to resolution - 1993 will be the year of the 16-line BBS. 1993 also sees Melb PC's tenth anniversary. Your committee has some initial ideas on the sort of event we might hold to celebrate ten years of PC-computing, and welcomes suggestions. The timescale will be around November, which doesn't leave a lot of time for planning. If you are interested in assisting or have ideas to contribute, please contact a committee member. I'm looking forward to a great year for Melb PC and wish all of you a better 1993 than you had in 1992.
