Many of you will already have heard that the Ziff Davis/ APN deal for publishing PC Update is not gong ahead. Although Ziff Davis has pulled out of our arrangement, we have reopened tenders and expect to make a decision about the publishing of PC Update in the near future.

A couple of weeks ago Gary Taig volunteered to put an interim PC Update together until we find a new publisher. No-one could disagree that the magazine you are holding at the moment is better than the newsletter we received last month. Our heartfelt thanks go to Gary and those who assisted him. They have all made a gargantuan effort in a very short tirne to bring this magazine to you.

New SIG

A new Special Interest Group centered in the Dandenong foothills is due to hold its first meeting on Sunday 3 October at the Progress Hall, Boronia.

We welcome the new SIG and hope it fares well. Thanks go to Jim McNabb for organising the meetings. For additional information contact Jim on 9754 4862

Additional Internet lines

An order has been placed for an additional 60 ISDN access lines on our Internet service. These should he connected by early October. An increase in bandwidth is also being negotiated.

Annual General Meeting

As you'll see later- in this issue, John Swale has announced the 1999 Annual General Meeting and elections for Melbourne PC User Group. Nomination forms for office bearers and ordinary committee members are included. If you feel you are able to contribute to the management of Melb PC, I urge you to think seriously about standing for a position.

Also in this issue is the Group's financial statement for the 1998-1999 financial year. Once again the group has exceeded all expectations and we find ourselves in an ever strengthening financial position.

Late News

Sadly, just as we go to press I have received notice from Colin Lovitt that he is unable to continue in the role of vice-president. Colin's work takes him all over the country, often at very short notice and he feels he is not serving the group adequately when he is absent so often.

We will miss Colin's contributions to the committee decision making process. We thank him sincerely for all he has done and hope that one day soon his talents might again be available to the group.
